Volume 6 Chapter 12 Goblins (2025)

While Naresh and the others were about to charge at the confused Lizardmen, the knights of Viscount Lester's family were camping on a nearby hill. They heard the sound of a 'Magic Tornado' and noticed a 'Flash,' causing the attendants to panic, thinking it was an enemy attack.

Some knew that Naresh and the others had gone out on patrol, but many were busy taking off their armor to clean it. They hadn't had a proper break in the last 3 days. It was unfair to blame them. Marching in metal armor under the sweltering heat was tough, even for knights who trained their bodies.

 "Calm down! Calm down!"

Lady Felicia, the deputy commander, raised her voice to quiet everyone. As she listened to the first attendant who noticed the commotion, 2 figures were running up from the foot of the hill. It was the attendant Naresh had instructed to report.

"We're under Lord Radyard. We found a group of Lizardmen, including higher-ranked ones, during the patrol. There are about 300 of them. We engaged in battle."

 "300 of them!"

Lady Felicia was shocked when she heard the attendant's report. From where the magic was cast, it was hard to see over the hill, but it was less than 500 meters ( 1640 feet) away. A group of Barbarians was there.

"Report to His Excellency Baron Oliver. Lord Radyard's attendant, come with me. You, go to Lord Wald's tent and tell His Excellency to come here. If there are 300 of them, they might come this way soon. Stay alert."

Felicia asked another nearby attendant to deliver a message to the magician Wald and gave various instructions to the other attendants as she hurried to the tent of Baron Oliver, who was the captain of the knights.

Baron Oliver was in the middle of putting on his armor with the help of his servant Gary, who had served since his father's time.

 "Felicia, what happened?"

Lady Felicia quickly summarized the report she had heard to Baron Oliver.

"Sir Naresh said there are more Barbarians hiding, so he went out to patrol, but it seems that information was correct. He insisted that Lord. Wald was not here. I believe he brought a friend from middle school this time. Is that friend really a skilled magician?"

At Baron Oliver's words, Lady Felicia tilted her head.

"He said he is the same age as Sir Naresh, but he doesn't look 15 years old. He's not very tall and looks almost like a child. He doesn't seem skilled at all, but the black leather armor he was wearing looked like top quality."

As Baron Oliver was scratching his head, Wald and Emerson arrived with a young man who seemed to be an apprentice. All 3 of them looked worn out, with dark circles under their eyes, as if they hadn't slept much.

"It seems there were Barbarians at that distance. Three hundred of them. I know you're tired, but please check it out."

Surprised by the number of 300, Wald and Emerson used the 'Floating Eye' spell to search for the location where Naresh's attendant had spotted the Barbarians. Following the guide, they descended the hill and reached a small rocky area where the attendant had parted ways with Naresh. From there, they could see Naresh and his group fighting what looked like Lizardmen in the distance.

 "They're definitely there."

At this point, the two still couldn't see the Lizardmen clearly and remained calm. Unlike Al, they couldn't use 'Sensory Boost' for Night Sight. Their eyes moved closer to Naresh. Finally, they noticed the corpses of Lizardmen scattered around. They also realized that Naresh and his group were not fighting regular Lizardmen, but a higher species known as Kilo Lizardmen.

"This is... quite a number. There must be over a hundred fallen Lizardmen."

In front of them, Naresh's thrust pierced through the chest of a Kilolizardman. The 'Floating Eye' spell only allowed them to see, not hear, but the way the Kilolizardman moved its mouth made it seem like they could hear its scream.

"Sir Naresh just defeated one high-ranking monster. It seems like Lord Radyard and Mr. Sigmund are fighting another one, so we have the upper hand."

Wald's explanation made Baron Oliver and Lord Felicia exchange glances. They acknowledged that Wald, who had reported no barbarians, was indeed present.

"There's a group of goblins to the south!"

Just then, an attendant called out from outside the tent. Baron Oliver looked at Wald. Wald, who was supposed to use attack magic, looked exhausted, with dark circles under his eyes. He seemed unable to help. Although he was a knight commander and a baron, it was tough for him to give orders to the top magician of the viscount family. But once this situation was resolved, the balance of power might shift.

"Understood. Get into a defensive position. Felicia, let's go. Lord Wald, Lord Emerson, if possible, I ask for your assistance. Gary, please inform the priests and the supply team about the situation."

Baron Oliver grabbed the sword offered by the attendant and rushed out of the tent. Lady Felicia followed closely behind. Wald and the others looked confused and unsure of what to do. Attendant Gary bowed deeply and watched them leave.

 "Where are they?"

Baron Oliver followed the attendant's? pointing and saw some lights down the hill, about 100 meters from the campsite. There were small figures that resembled goblin Barbarians. This surprised him because while the 'Light' spell was often used at the campsite, it was usually just for the area within the campsite, not for areas under watch. Although using the spell like this was effective, it was considered impractical since the area was large and the spell didn't last long.

 "Who put 'Light' over there?"

"Yes, Lord Radyard was giving instructions to some young adventurer, and they lit it up. He also mentioned that there was a high chance goblins would appear on this route, so they were being cautious."

"It sounds just like what Captain Jonas reported. Could it be that attendant?"

Lord Felicia murmured as if she had just thought of something. Not long ago, Captain Jonas had reported that during a patrol of the frontier village, they had been able to fight the Barbarians quite efficiently. In that report, it was mentioned that they had used the 'Light' spell to illuminate a lookout point far from the base, making it easy to defeat the goblins that gathered there.

The one who did that was a young apprentice magician hired by the famous magician Eric from the territory, and it was said that they were currently investigating and considering that method.

Hearing the story from Felicia, Baron Oliver was impressed. If there was light in this position, they could expect to take down quite a few from the hilltop with a crossbow. The fact that the knights found the goblin group quickly was thanks to that light.

Besides Felicia, knights equipped with armor were gathering around Baron Oliver. Some were swinging their spears as if warming up.

"There are reports of higher-ranked ones. Be careful."

As Felicia said this, 2 huge figures appeared from behind the rocks where the goblins were. Lord Radyard had mentioned they might be Goblin Slaughters, but that was uncertain information, and they hadn't explained that much to the knights. These creatures had darker green skin than regular goblins and were very muscular. They stood about 2 meters tall ( 6.6 feet), while regular goblins were less than 150 centimeters ( 4.9 feet), making the size difference look like that between an adult and a child.

"Hobgoblins? But they're bigger than that."

"They might be an even higher rank... their names are..."

Felicia couldn't remember the names in response to Baron Oliver's question. The two higher-ranked hobgoblins glared at Baron Oliver and the others.

"For now, let's call them Great Hobgoblins. We don't know what they'll do. Stay alert."

The knights gathered around Baron Oliver, readying their weapons. The two Great Hobgoblins charged up the hill with their goblin attendants. The knights fired their crossbows. Several goblins were pierced by the arrows and fell, bleeding green blood, but it seemed ineffective against the Great Hobgoblins, as the distance closed quickly.

At that moment, a goblin with bright red skin peeked out from behind the great hobgoblin. It seemed like it had been hiding on the huge body of the great hobgoblin. Then, the red-skinned goblin cast a spell at the knights who had gathered and were ready for battle.

 'Magic Tornado!'
